In the villages carpets were often woven by women.

This late nineteenth century example is dominated by the central elongated hexagonal lozenge typical of 'double-niche' prayer rugs. The colours are particularly strong, and are typical of many Turkish village carpets. The leaf-and-calyx border on an olive ground occurs on Caucasian carpets.
